Hosting Has Never Been this Fun: Ouran High School Host Club Anime Review

Introduction

Fujioka Haruhi is a student who has just achieved a scholarship to the prestigious Ouran High School. During an escapade to  find a quiet place to study stumbles upon an unused music room, surprise to discover the Host Club, an elite club for the super rich and beautiful boys who use their specific traits and charms to entertain young ladies.  Even worse was that Haruhi had accidentally broken an 8 million yen vase in the club. Unable to repay the debt with money, Haruhi will need to work for the Host Club, becoming a male host even thought Haruhi is female.

Other than Haruhi, the other members of the club consist of the president Tamaki Suou, a narcissist who treats Haruhi like she is his own daughter and is hugely jealous of anyone else who approaches her; Kyoya Otori, the bespectacled calculating vice-president who serves as the brains of the club; Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin, a pair of mischievous identical twins who like playing tricks on the other club members and playing up a homoerotic angle on their relationship; Mitsukuni “Honey” Haninozuka (“Hunny” in the manga), a small, cute boy who has a great passion for stuffed animals and eating cakes; and Takashi “Mori” Morinozuka, a tall, quiet boy who is protective of Honey. All the characters are parodies of shojo manga characters, with Haruhi serving as the “natural” type, Tamaki as the “princely” type, Kyoya as the “cool” type, the Hitachiin twins as the “little devils”, Honey as the “cute shotacon” type, and Mori as the “strong, silent type”.

Review

This anime is great, though a reverse harem you find yourself engaged to the story and how it unfolds. The music and sound is superb, while the comic relief is quite entertaining. Each character provides a unique perspective and have great back stories.  Unfortunately the story is not that complex and falls in the pitfalls of any drama but because of this makes it easy to follow. Even though it is far from perfect is still entertaining and will charm its’ way into your heart.

This anime charms its’ way into getting 4 Dashes of Battle out of 5

4/5
